Chinese sancai-glazed pottery figure, most likely dating from the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644 AD). These statues were typically used as minqi, or burial figures, placed in tombs to serve or protect the deceased in the afterlife.
- Style & Material: The figure is made of glazed earthenware using the sancai (three-color) technique, characterized here by the deep green and amber-brown lead glazes.
- Subject: It depicts a standing official, dignitary, or attendant. The figure wears a long, wide-sleeved robe tied at the waist with a sash and stands upon a shaped, often hexagonal, base.
- Design Details: Common for these types of figures, the head and headdress are sometimes left unglazed or show remains of original polychrome paint, while the body is heavily glazed to indicate the status of the robes.
